Once again, the specter of false and fabricated cases has reared its head in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj. In connection with a mass gathering in Khalkula, a highly controversial explosive case has been filed, naming over 150 innocent individuals as accused — a move widely condemned as an act of harassment. Locals allege that this is nothing but a scripted drama, orchestrated by a powerful figure who identifies himself as a “July War Hero” and has long wielded influence over the administration to establish a reign of fear.

Deceased, expatriates, women — no one spared!

One of the most shocking aspects of this case is the inclusion of individuals who have been deceased for years, others who have been living abroad for a long time, and even local women — all accused of crimes they could not possibly commit.
A victim’s father exclaimed, “My son has been working in Malaysia. Did he fly back just to throw a bomb?”

Plaintiff’s Identity and Motive Under Question

The plaintiff, Md. Shahin Babu, claims to be a “July Freedom Fighter”, but locals assert that he has long misused this identity to pressure law enforcement and suppress dissent. He has reportedly been involved in land grabbing, threats, and political intimidation in the area.

While the case statement mentions that the delay in filing was due to the plaintiff’s illness, locals strongly refute this claim. “He was actively attending events and meetings even during the time of the incident,” said a local youth.
Adding to the controversy, the first witness of the case, Md. Morsalin, publicly stated, “I have no knowledge about this case. Do not mislead people by associating me with it.”

Allegations of Police Bias and Interference

Despite the flimsy evidence and widespread irregularities, the police investigation declared the allegations to be “true”. The case was filed under Sections 143, 323, 324, 325, 326, 307, 506, 114, and 34 of the Penal Code — typically used for grave criminal offenses such as rioting, grievous injury, attempted murder, and criminal conspiracy.

However, no eyewitnesses, video footage, or credible documentation has been presented to support such a serious accusation.

A local public representative remarked, “This wasn’t an investigation — it was a command execution. The police echoed the plaintiff’s narrative word for word. It felt like they were not a neutral body, but a personal task force.”

Political Revenge Disguised as Law?

Members of the civil society in Tarash believe this case is not an isolated personal conflict, but rather a well-calculated act of political revenge.
They allege that a clique of powerful individuals, in collaboration with elements of the administration, is trying to suppress opposition and instill fear among the masses. The case appears to be a tool to silence voices, not uphold justice.

An elderly retired teacher said, “This so-called ‘July War Hero’ has turned into a local menace. The police obey his orders blindly. In an independent country, this feels like a form of modern-day tyranny.”

People Demand Justice — Or They’ll Take to the Streets

A mass signature campaign has already begun, demanding immediate withdrawal of the case. Protesters insist on: Full cancellation of the fabricated case, Legal action against those who submitted false information, and A neutral, independent inquiry into the police’s handling of the investigation.

“Those who are destroying families with false cases will not go unpunished. If necessary, we will take to the streets,” warned a victim’s relative.

This is no longer about a single case involving 150 people — it is a battle for the soul of Tarash.
The public is rising against blatant police bias, unchecked power, and the misuse of the law as a weapon.
Now, one question echoes through the streets:
Will justice prevail — or will truth once again be crushed by the weight of influence and power?
